Trade Briere, sign Morrow. There's your cost.
We all get that the costs of trades are high, that UFAs get too much money, and that power forwards don't grow on trees, but suggesting that we wait it out for McCarron to become our savior is ridiculous.
"The team that gets the best player usually wins the trade." Ryan for Eller, a 1st and Kristo is roughly on par with what they got for him no? |

Or they could ask Dr Mulder to go all Frankseinstein and stitch Briere's hands on Parros' body. |

I'm sure most teams around the league would rather have Brière on their team than Morrow. |

16 points Briere had last season. Why the hell would that be the case?
Morrow would cost less, bring more size, leadership, offense, any other intangibles you want. He fills a need on the Habs while Briere's only box he checks is a french last name. |

Who knows... Briere might come back to his old form. Risky? Yes, but not impossible. |

Parros will be another Million off the books and i doubt Montreal re-signs Diaz, particularly if he's due 3-4 million. the cap should also rise from 64 million next season so there should be some flexibility.
the Clarkson signing is mindboggling but i think Nonis is on a short leash there. it's why he's made that signing, it's why he traded 2 second round picks... i don't think he's exactly thinking 3-4 years down the line. |

Over the last 5 years, go ahead and tell me Morrow has been more useful to his team than Brière.

Lol are you sick in the head? Lars Eller just had a breakout season, taking tough minutes against the opposition's top players and scoring at a 50-point/82 game pace, despite playing less minutes on the PP than David Desharnais. He's our Tomas Plekanec replacement for the future. You want to trade this guy for a "bona fide 1st liner" who can't manage more than 71 points playing with two of the best players in the league? Not to mention we don't have Kristo anymore, and Bergevin doesn't like trading picks. |

Sure, but I'll take a washed Morrow over a washed Brière.
Offense aside, Brière brings nothing. |

With limited bucks to sign UFAs, it is a bit of a puzzle that Briere was chosen over Morrow. Morrow is younger and bigger, thereby filling the habs needs better. He also scored more than Briere last year, and will likely cost less than was paid for Briere.
The only logic in signing Briere is if there is a plan to move Desharnais. I don't believe this is the case, but if it is, Briere's presence might reduce the upset at losing Desharnais. He can also play C if Desharnais was moved and Galchenyuk is still developing.
If Morrow is signed at present, we either need to move another top 9 guy... insert Desharnais... or move someone slated for 4th line duty.

Morrow has been more useful to his team than Briere because the former can actually play defensively. Sure, Briere will score a bunch of goals in the playoffs, but he'll allow double that number against his team while he's on the ice. He's soft and has to be incredibly sheltered to be effective. Think Desharnais v.1.0.0.0.1. Oh, and he's old. |

Shift DD to wing, trade gionta.
DD, like Briere, had a bad season last year. Unlike Briere, DD is young and we will likely see a bounce back. No reason to think he couldn't get back north of 50 points again. |

Briere wanted to come here. Morrow expressed interest, but after the fact.
